The Beirut I depicted in my paintings is an environment to which we are used to. It is familiar to me, since my childhood. When I leave this environment for a while, I always come back to it with some unexplained nostalgia.
I wanted to give a luminous and radiant character to this environment; that Lebanese sun that overwhelms the city every day. This is the environment towards which we feel authenticity, security and grin.
These cityscapes take us back to a past that inspires light and hope for a bright and beautiful future. These houses that we see in the paintings depict the countenance of a welcoming soul, a mysterious attraction, spontaneity and touching character. It is the soul-filling song of the houses, a sunny afternoon poetry.
